Carrie Underwood is grieving the loss of her friend and fellow Oklahoman, Toby Keith. She paid tribute to the country music legend after his passing on Monday, February 5, at the age of 62.

Keith valiantly fought stomach cancer since 2021. His family released a statement honoring his “courage” demonstrated over the past years following his passing.

Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time,” they said.

Underwood was among the numerous country artists who responded to Keith’s passing. However, her tribute stood out as one of the most poignant and heartfelt to peruse.

Carrie Underwood Remembers Toby Keith – “See You Again Someday, Friend

Both Underwood and Keith hail from Oklahoma, a shared origin that fostered a deep connection and culminated in a lasting friendship spanning several years. In 2022, Underwood paid tribute to Keith as he was bestowed with the prestigious BMI Icon Award. She delivered a stunning rendition of his debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” at the ceremony.

Underwood posted photos from the ceremony where she honored Keith following his passing. Among them was an older picture capturing the two of them together from years past.

She wrote a powerful tribute to Keith in the caption.

Saddle up the horses, Jesus, ‘cause a true blue COWBOY just made his ride up to heaven!!! Introduce him to all the Okies and sign that boy up for the choir! We’re gonna miss you, Toby, but my heart has no doubt that you are standing in the presence of our King right now!!! See you again someday, friend.

See Underwood’s tribute to Keith in the post below.

We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Keith’s family, friends, and fellow artists as they navigate this challenging time.
